Welcome to Digital Bridges - Connecting Students

Our vision is to empower students in Germany and New Zealand to become confident, collaborative and culturally aware creators. By working together like an international marketing team, students develop digital campaigns, immersive experiences and authentic stories that reflect who they are and what they value. This project aims to strengthen global teamwork, mutual respect and a shared sense of responsibility for our world.

Who We Are

We are a partnership between the Berufskolleg des Rhein‑Sieg‑Kreises in Siegburg, Germany, and Nayland College in Nelson, New Zealand. In international teams, students collaborate on a digital marketing project to develop intercultural competence, digital skills, and practical knowledge of marketing and tourism. The project also fosters cultural exchange and shared learning among students, teachers, schools, and families - who grow through international collaboration, shared learning, and cultural exchange.

Project Idea

Our project connects students from Germany and New Zealand to explore each other’s cultures, everyday life, and economic environments. Together, we develop digital products as part of the marketing project “Digital Bridges”, focusing on creating engaging materials designed specifically for students as the main target group.
The skills for creating digital content—such as 360° experiences, VR tours—can also be adapted for other sectors, including the real estate industry. Through virtual collaboration, students build creativity, intercultural understanding, and practical skills using modern tools and agile methods.

How We Meet

We collaborate regularly through digital meetings using video conferences, shared online boards, and cloud-based platforms for project management. In addition, we work asynchronously, allowing both groups to prepare, design, and exchange content independently.
A key part of our collaboration are three-week on-site visits in New Zealand and in Germany. During these stays, we explore the country and culture together. These personal encounters help us better understand cultural differences and similarities and enable us to explain them authentically in our digital products.

What We Do

We immerse ourselves in the host country and its culture to gain authentic insights into everyday life, traditions, and perspectives. Based on these experiences, we develop the storytelling for our digital products.
We then capture images and videos on location, with a special focus on 360-degree photos and videos created for VR headsets. After recording, the material is carefully edited and refined. Our final products are presented at our schools and published on the web, making cultural experiences accessible, engaging, and easy to understand for others.

Why It Matters

This project fosters intercultural understanding, digital literacy, and creative storytelling. By working together across countries, participants gain real‑world skills in communication, marketing, and media production. The digital products help make cultures accessible and relatable, strengthen international partnerships, and create lasting value for schools, families, and future student cohorts.
